Who made this awful word?

1

Schadenfreude is a pretty nasty German word. It is used to describe finding pleasure in the misery of others. Yikes!

Some people online are seemingly happy that celebrity homes are burning in Los Angeles, especially if those celebrities are Zios. But that’s wrong!

So WHY do people have such extreme emotions about their fellow human beings?

They’re frustrated because some suffering gets more attention than others. The media shows more empathy for white people or celebrities than for Palestinians. The world cries for the Palisades fire, yet stays silent - or worse, justifies - Gazans being burnt alive in Israeli airstrikes. Millions in Gaza have lost their homes, memories, and lives, but their pain is treated as if it matters less.

It’s wrong to celebrate the suffering of celebs in LA, but it’s also wrong to ignore Gaza burning for 463 days. True empathy doesn’t rank whose pain matters more.

That’s why Seen Palestine exists. Publishing videos that show how a celeb in LA and a kid in Gaza have more in common than they have apart.
